Boston University founded in 1839 is a private, non-profit, research university in Boston, Massachusetts. The university has more than 3,900 faculty members and nearly 33,000 students, and is one of Boston's largest employers.

BU offers bachelor's degrees, master's degrees, and doctorates, and medical, dental, business, and law degrees through 17 schools and colleges on two urban campuses. The main campus is situated along the Charles River in Boston's Fenway-Kenmore and Allston neighborhoods, while the Boston University Medical Campus is in Boston's South End neighborhood.

Boston University Innovate@BU

Innovate@BU is a University-wide initiative to enable all BU Terriers to become drivers of innovation in their own lives, careers, and communities. The initiative’s experiential learning programs foster an entrepreneurial mindset by teaching innovation, communication, and collaboration skills through the Build Lab IDG Capital Student Innovation Center.

It also aims to engage faculty in focused research to identify best practices that can support the Boston innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem and hopes to establish University minor in Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Innovate@BU strives to nurture, grow, and amplify the innovation and entrepreneurial activities happening across the University.

Boston University BUild Lab

The Build Lab IDG Capital Student Innovation Center serves as Innovate@BU’s physical home; it provides a coworking community for students and alumni, and is home to most of Innovate@BU’s programs, resources, and staff.

Programs and resources include mentors and office hours, venture pitch competitions, a summer accelerator, weekly workshops, and more.

VERTO is a machine learning enhanced secondhand eCommerce platform that facilitates pre-owned purchases with thorough user verification, flexible delivery options including same-day door to door delivery, and no commission fees; VERTO prioritize students’ safety, time and comfort.

Credyty is a student loans fintech platform that aims to increase access to education and to the financial system in Latin America. The service as such is short-term loans for education. Their service is currently operating in Colombia, and planning to expand to Brazil and Mexico in the coming to years. This is allowed by the enhanced scalability of their business model.

Flux Marine

Launched in May 2017 by one BU student Daylin Frantin (CFO) and two Princeton students Benjamin Sorkin (CEO) & Jonathan Lord (CTO), three BU students, Flux Marine aims to bring a wave of innovation to the boating world through the development of energy-efficient, electric propulsion systems for marine vehicles.

TechTogether is a non-profit with a mission to advance inclusivity in tech that provides college-aged women with all of the resources they need to host female-centric hackathons on their school campuses. The organization is looking to expand in the coming years and scale operations in order to support more of these events nationwide. Fortunately, we had the chance to connect with TechTogether’s founder, Boston University student Fiona Whittington to get her perspective on the organization’s exciting purpose and rapid growth.
