The University of Colorado Boulder (commonly referred to as CU or Colorado) is a public research university located in Boulder, Colorado, United States. It is the flagship university of the University of Colorado system and was founded five months before Colorado was admitted to the Union in 1876. The university comprises nine colleges and schools and offers over 150 academic programs and enrolls almost 17,000 students. Twelve Nobel Laureates, nine MacArthur Fellows, and 20 astronauts have been affiliated with CU Boulder as students, researchers, or faculty members in its history. The university received nearly $454 million in sponsored research in 2010 to various fund programs.

Catalyze CU | Innovation + Entrepreneurship Initiative

Through its Innovation and Entrepreneurship Initiative, CU Boulder provides opportunities for students, faculty, staff, industry partners, and the community to engage in and be exposed to innovative and entrepreneurial experiences and mindsets.

Catalyze CU is a 10 week, summer startup accelerator designed for CU students, faculty, and staff. Catalyze CU combines world-class mentorship and equity free grants with the university’s most promising ideas and technologies. Through this combination, Catalyze CU provides the driving force to make these ideas and technologies succeed.

Mindscribe

Founder: Layne Jackson Hubbard

Founded in 2016, MindScribe is a research and design studio that supports early childhood development by embedding smart technology into stuffed animals. With MindScribe, children always have someone who will listen to their stories and encourage their creativity. MindScribe’s talking stuffed animals are able to engage with children about their 2D and 3D drawings, asking questions and prompting follow-up responses. As a result, the startup solves a major challenge in many classrooms.

Uzio Technology

Co Founders: Zoe Welz and Andre Houssney

Founded in 2018, Uzio is helping bring farming and agriculture into the digital age through a solar-powered energizing device that provides real-time updates to farmers on the condition of their electric fences. As a result, the company is helping farmers save hundreds of hours per year on manual maintenance in addition to promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

Noble Roots

Co Founders: Sarah Safranski, Rebekah Sosa, and Erin Stenzel

Founded by three CU students, Noble Roots delivers healthy, ready-to-consume snacks directly to office buildings. Based out of Denver, Colorado, the company sources many of its products from local manufacturers and is able to accommodate dietary restrictions and taste preferences. Today, Noble Roots serves businesses in Denver and Boulder and is looking to expand across the Front Range.
